Wendy’s Starts Development of Restaurant Chain in Georgia with Wissol Group
Tbilisi, Georgia (September 12, 2013) – The Wendy’s Company™ today announced the grand opening of the first Wendy’s® restaurant together with Wissol Group in Georgia, located in the historic Rustaveli Avenue, Tbilisi.
U.S. Ambassador to Georgia, Richard Norland, and world famous Georgian opera singer and founder of Charity Foundation, “Iavnana” Paata Burchuladze, participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Starting with Tbilisi, Wissol Group plans a rollout of Wendy’s restaurants in the coming years. Approximately 15 Wendy’s restaurants are scheduled to open in Georgia within the next five years. Wissol Group, one of the largest business groups in Georgia, signed a license agreement with Wendy’s in 2012 to develop the restaurant chain in Georgia.
The first Wendy’s restaurant in Georgia, with a Wendy’s Café, party zone and game zone, is spread out on more than 1,000 square meters of space, making Tbilisi Wendy’s among the largest restaurants in the Wendy’s system worldwide.
Beside Wendy’s great-tasting signature menu – featuring made-to-order hamburgers and sandwiches, fresh-made salads, French fries, chili and Frosty™ desserts -- Wendy’s Café will offer customers 15 different kinds of famous Italian Trucillo brand premium quality coffee. Wendy’s delicious food will be served in a contemporary, inviting atmosphere that will exceed the discerning expectations of Georgian consumers.
Darrell van Ligten, President--International for The Wendy’s Company, said, “We are delighted to join with a highly capable partner, Wissol Group, to bring Wendy’s brand to Georgia and rapidly grow our presence in the fast developing market. The opening of our first restaurant in Tbilisi is an important step in our expansion in Eastern Europe and an expression of our confidence in the bright future of Georgia”.
Dr. Samson Pkhakadze, President of Wissol Group said, “We are very proud to bring Wendy’s to the Georgian market, where we will focus our development efforts over the next several years. Wendy’s has a well-established global brand image and standardized business practices that will be immediately attractive to Georgian customers. With Wendy’s, Wissol Group shares the passion for quality, exceptional customer service and core values of corporate social responsibility. Thus, it was symbolic that world famous Georgian opera singer and founder of Charity Foundation Iavnana, Paata Burchuladze, participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony as “giving back” was a core value of Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas and is still core value for Wendy’s brand. We are going to make it traditional for Wendy’s Georgia as well. Wissol Group are close to concluding an agreement with OPIC to provide funding for further expansion of Wendy’s, which is part of OPIC’s commitment to support businesses in Georgia ”.
